Shop Local in Mount Kisco Westchester, New York
By Caroline Curvan - Mt. Kisco is unique in that it has large, chain businesses peacefully co-existing with small mom and pop stores. For shoppers this is truly the best of both worlds.
Walk down South Moger Avenue and you’ll pass Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Chico’s and the Gap. There’s also a Papyrus card shop and a Stride Rite shoe store for the kiddies. Nestled in there, you’ll also find Mt. Kisco Sports, a family-owned business specializing in all sporting goods – sometimes you need the level of expertise and service that a small business can provide. There are several small jewelry shops on this street, such as Wilson’s Jeweler’s, Limited Unlimited and Rose Garden, all of whom seemed very helpful and knowledgeable when I visited. Cut through the South Moger Promenade and you’ll come upon Churchill’s upscale clothing boutique. And let’s not forget Heller’s Shoes, an excellent resource for men’s and women’s comfortable (yet stylish!) shoes.
On Main Street, you’ll find Bicycle World, another locally owned business with terrific service and encyclopedic knowledge about their product. If they don’t have the bike you want, they will find it for you! For fine clothing, there’s Joseph A. Bank for men and NY Dolls for women. Elephant’s Trunk offers evening wear for both, with a grand selection of black tie worthy gowns and tuxedos.
If you don’t feel like making the trek down to the Westchester in White Plains, or Chestnut Hill in Yonkers, you can probably find what you need (and then some!) in Mt. Kisco.
